CDI, Inc. performed as a General Contractor to complete Indiana State University‘s Power Plant. The new power plant has been awarded Midwest Construction project of the year, Industrial 2001, Midwest Construction Top Indiana Projects 2002, and the BKD Build Indiana Award 2002. Construction was completed in 13 months. The new power plant will replace 50-year-old facility that provides steam and compressed air to the campus. The plant will be 14% more efficient, resulting in a significant energy savings for ISU. Emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by approximately 700 tons or 1.4M pounds per year. Described as the heart of the ISU utility system, the plant will provide heating for 2,000,000 SF of academic and residential life facilities. It will include: three 75,000 pounds-per-hour package gas/oil fired boilers with a total firm capacity of 150,000 pounds-per-hour, with one unit out of service. Redundant equipment to facilitate equipment outages without loss of steam production.
